Two quick pointers about counting in Europe.
Europeans count with their fingers starting with their thumb. Americans typically start with their pointing finger. If you are buying something and want to tell the seller you want one and raise your pointer finger to indicate one, you may get two, as he or she will take that as an indicator for two!
Europeans call the second floor of a building floor one as the first level is usually occupied by shops and stores, so make the adjustment when necessary.
